Are you ready to go back to school?
Incredibly, Robert Rodriguez’s The Faculty turned 25 years old on December 25th 2023. Just days before the big anniversary, reports began to surface that a remake was in the works.
Very little is known about the project, and it must be stressed that it still may not materialize. However, the one fact that continues to crop up in various reports is that Robert Rodriguez is on board to produce.
The 1998 original was a collaboration between Rodriguez and screenwriter Kevin Williamson, being a tribute to the sci-fi movies of the 1950s.
Featuring a who’s who of fresh faces and character actors, The Faculty cast included the likes of Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Jordana Brewster, Robert Patrick, and Piper Laurie. Without doubt, a remake could accumulate a similarly exciting cast.
Although now considered a cult classic with a constantly expanding fanbase, The Faculty was not initially the smash-hit that was expected in a post-Scream landscape. Whilst accumulating a respectable $40 million at the box-office, the film underperformed, later attributed to its awkward Christmas Day release date.
However, here we are, a quarter of a century later, discussing a film that has become so beloved that it may be revived for a new generation.
We will look out for any further word on a possible remake.
