Saw fans rejoice!
Franchise alum Kevin Greutert will return to direct the eleventh instalment, it has been confirmed.
Greutert directed last year’s Saw X to unheard of acclaim for the series, and has been with the franchise for years. Previously serving as the editor on instalments I-V, Greutert first took the director’s chair with 2009’s Saw VI. He’d next direct the series’ “final” chapter the following year, before returning to editing duties on 2017’s reboot Jigsaw.
The filmmaker also served as an executive producer on 2021’s spin-off Spiral: From the Book of Saw, assuring that there are no safer hands the eleventh entry could be in.
Away from the Saw series, Greutert has remained with the horror genre, serving as an editor to the likes of The Strangers and 2023’s Cobweb. He was also an executive producer on 2017’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre prequel Leatherface.
Good news indeed for the fans, who are eager to know just where the eleventh entry will pick up.
2023’s Saw X saw Tobin Bell’s John Kramer return in a “lost” segment of the continuity. Set between parts II and iii, the film sees Kramer go to Mexico for life-saving treatment, only to get defrauded and seek brutal revenge.
Lauded for its intricate story and focus on character, Saw X was a surprise hit with critics, and grossed over $100 million at the box-office. Will we have another prequel on our hands this time? If so, where can the team fit it in?
So many questions that we’ll undoubtedly find answers too very soon. Filming is expected to begin on Saw XI in March, and the games will begin anew on September 27th 2024.
We will bring you any further developments as soon as we can.
